Abstract

This article explores the connection between language and psychology in Kate Chopin's "Story of an Hour." The author examines how language is used to convey Louise Mallard's emotional response to her husband's death and her subsequent liberation. The use of emotive language sets the tone of despair and sadness at the beginning of the story, while descriptions of the natural world create a sense of freshness and freedom. As Louise's thoughts undergo a transformation, language reflecting her newfound independence and power is employed.
