NAMANGAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL INSTITUTE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES 184 March 27, 2026 Annotation: This article analyzes the role and importance of foreign lexicon in the formation of the language vocabulary based on the materials of “The Century Dictionary”. It considers foreign words as a separate layer of the acquired lexicon, and highlights their diachronic and synchronic characteristics. The lack of clear theoretical criteria for distinguishing foreign words in the dictionary and the impact of this situation on the assessment of foreign lexicon are revealed.

Аннотация: В данной статье анализируется роль и значение иностранной лексики в формировании языкового словарного запаса на основе материалов «Словаря века». Иностранные слова рассматриваются как отдельный слой усвоенной лексики, и выделяются их диахронические и синхронические характеристики. Выявлено отсутствие четких теоретических критериев для различения иностранных слов в словаре и влияние этой ситуации на оценку иностранной лексики.
