Annotatsiya
Ecotourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel industry, offering a responsible alternative to conventional mass tourism. This article examines the definition, principles, benefits, and challenges of ecotourism, with reference to global case studies and policy frameworks. It argues that, when properly managed, ecotourism can serve as a powerful instrument for environmental conservation, local community empowerment, and crosscultural education. However, without rigorous standards and governance, it risks becoming a form of "greenwashing" that undermines its own objectives. The article concludes with recommendations for stakeholders — including governments, tour operators, and travelers — to ensure ecotourism fulfills its transformative potential.
